2008: The year of Bumpy Rides, Big Winds, & Great Singing
We
are very thankful for what a great year 2008 was for Instant
Party DJ & Karaoke. We did several beautiful weddings,
including extra special events at the Red Fox Inn in
Middleburg, Virginia and a far afield but wonderful trip to Indian Harbour,
Florida to the Eau Gallie (Oh golly!) Yacht
Club.
We performed at ABC-Chesapeake’s fantastic Bull
and Oyster Roast at the Annapolis Armory and also at their Annual Holiday
Gala and Silent Auction at the Crofton Country Club. Rode the mechanical
oyster. It’s a little squishy and yucky, but you don’t have
to shell out for it.
We continued well into our second year at Isaac’s Restaurant
in Solomons, Maryland with Saturday night karaoke until we
said goodbye in November. We wish them all the best, and hope one day
as the economy improves, karaoke will return to the Holiday Inn even
bigger and better!
We had a tremendous summer on the patio Friday evenings at Uno’s
in Waldorf and hosted the 1st Annual Uno’s Waldorf
Karaoke Challenge and Fundraiser, to benefit the Waldorf Volunteer
Fire Department, EMS, & Auxiliary! It was an 8 week contest
that turned into a 12 week contest, due to uncooperative “Mother
Nature” and the tragic loss of one of Waldorf’s EMTs when
a Medivac Helicopter crashed on a very foggy night. The contest was
a great success however, and the Stacey Smith, a school
teacher from Gaithersburg, MD, won the $400.00 first prize by raising
the most money AND wowing the judges with her talent! This year’s
contest will have to be held at a different venue as Uno’s abruptly
closed in December! (Hey, that’s what happens when you don’t
have karaoke to bring in the business!)
Once again, we were the karaoke provider for the Prince George’s
County Fair, which was briefly interrupted for a TROPICAL STORM
on Saturday, the main day of the competition! However, we succeeded
in attracting plenty of great singers to compete in the finals. The
grand prize winner of the 16 and under division won a scholarship to
the John Roberts Academy. The grand prize winner of the 17 and over
division won $1,000.00! There was some great talent there and Channel
7 News even showed up to do some taping!
We started a brand new Friday night gig at the Waldorf Applebee’s
which has drawn fantastic crowds and even has enticed some regulars
from Solomons to make the drive so they can sing with DJ Tommy
T. I am pleased to say that the Waldorf Applebee’s is
the most successful of the Applebee’s offering karaoke –
thanks so much for your support!
We also just began to play at the Bowie Applebee’s
on Thursday nights, with DJ Tawna filling in every other week for me,
Tommy T. That gig is also on its’ way to becoming huge and we
have more and more singers every week!
I would like to thank all my associate DJs who helped make this year
so successful – K-Bone, Snowman, DJ G-Force, the team
of DJ Angel & DJ Steve, and DJ Tawna,
by filling in when I had duplicate and even triplicate functions! And
lest I forget, my support staff of my wife, Maureen
who helps a lot with setting up, breaking down, and organizing and last
but not least, my Web Designer & Internet Guru – the mysterious
and semi effervescent Cyber Jim, who's also breaking
down.
Of course, none of this would be possible without my regulars who come
out each and every week to star in our shows. I count each of you
as a friend, and wish you a Healthy and Prosperous 2009! Always keep
at least one Song in your heart! I’ve got the rest on disk.
Remember,
Instant Party DJ & Karaoke can provide entertainment for just about
any event - from a barefoot luau on the beach to a formal wedding and
reception.
